A prominent Muslim group in Kerala has asked community not to use loudspeakers in manner that cause nuisance to the public.
The Kerala Sunni Mahallu Federation, which has 8,000-odd mosque committees affiliated to it, has called for the restricted use of loudspeakers at mosques.
The federation, in its meeting held in Kozhikode, stated that use of loudspeakers should not cause nuisance to the public. Its use should be limited for announcements and call to prayer. The faithful should keep away from actions that would affect the communal harmony. Issues should be handed in a well thought-out manner, said the federation general secretary and Muslim League supremo Panakkad Hyderali Shihab Thangal.
The federation directive was welcomed by various Muslim leaders.
Jamaat-e-Islami leader Muhammed Karakkunnu said the call to prayer from various mosques in a locality at different times would cause hardship to people of that locality.
On such occasions, at least a section of non-Muslims would detest the name of the Prophet when they hear the call to prayer amplified on loudspeaker, he said.
