Supreme Court judge Uday U Lalit today recused himself from hearing a petition of former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala in the teachers’ recruitment scam case. Chautala along with his son Ajay Singh Chautala and three others, is serving a 10-year jail term in the case. Lalit, who was sitting on the bench headed by Justice F M I Kalifulla, said he recuses himself as he has appeared for some of the accused in the case. Earlier also, Justice Lalit had recused himself from hearing the plea of INLD Chautala’s son Ajay on a similar ground.
The apex court has now posted the appeals of various convicts challenging their conviction and sentence, for hearing on 21st of this month in the case. Chautalas and 53 others, including two IAS officers, were convicted in 2013 by the trial court for illegally recruiting over three thousand junior basic trained teachers in Haryana in 2000.
