The death toll due to Japanese Encephalitis, JE in assam has gone up to 66 this year. Official sources said that 365 JE positive cases have been reported in 24 districts. Sivsagar, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Golaghat districts have reported maximum deaths.
Health department has taken a slew of measures to contain the vector borne disease. A high level medical team has been set up to monitor the situation across the state. Provisions for separate beds have been made to take care of JE patients in district hospitals and medical colleges. Provision of separate ICU has also been made at all the medical college and hospitals.
Awareness drive through televisions, radio and newspapers are being carried out. Fogging is being carried out across the state .Apart from that, JE vaccination drive for below 15 years children is also being carried out by the health department.
