Iran has lifted a ban on US wrestlers, allowing them to take part in the Freestyle World Cup later this month in the Iranian city of Kermanshah.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi said the ban was lifted after the discriminative restrictions on Iranian nationals travelling to the U.S. was suspended by a U.S. federal judge.
Iran initially refused to issue the visas, in retaliation for US President Donald Trump’s immigration order. Iran and the United States severed their diplomatic ties after the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran. But wrestling teams from the two countries have continued exchanges.
