MEA swarupIndia has said World Bank’s decision to temporarily halt two simultaneous processes to look into Indo-Pak dispute over Kishenganga and Ratle project confirms that pursuing the two concurrent processes could have rendered the Indus Water Treaty unworkable over time.

Responding to a media query, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said, India is fully conscious of its international obligations and is ready to engage in further consultations for resolving current differences regarding these two projects. He said, New Delhi had pointed out last month that launch of two simultaneous processes by the World Bank is legally untenable.

The Bank has temporarily halted the processes for appointment of a Neutral Expert and establishment of a Court of Arbitration to adjudicate technical differences between India and Pakistan on these projects. India had sought appointment of a Neutral Expert while Pakistan had requested for establishment of a Court of Arbitration by the World Bank.
