India has ratified two core Conventions of International Labour Organisation, ILO towards its commitment to make the country child labour free. The two conventions relate to admission of age to employment and worst forms of Child Labour. Labour and Employment Minister Bandaru Dattatreya handed over the instruments of ratification to ILO during International Labour Conference in Geneva recently.
Briefing MEDIA in New Delhi today, he said, the government has been working in a concerted manner to eliminate child labour from the country by following a multipronged strategy by including both stringent legislative and Project based approach.
With ratification of these two core conventions, India has ratified 6 out of 8 core ILO conventions. The other 4 core conventions are relating to abolition of forced labour, equal remuneration and no discrimination between men and women in employment and occupation.
On employment generation, the Minister said, it is top priority of the government and several initiatives have been taken by the Centre including Skill India, Digital India and MUDRA Yojna in this regard. He also said, the unemployment rate is decreasing in the country.
