Government has set up a high-level committee to look into the issue of missing files related to 2004 Ishrat Jahan encounter case. The committee headed by an Additional Secretary in the Home Ministry will see how the draft of the second affidavit filed in the case went missing. It will also probe the entire chain of file movements in the ministry during the period.
Last week in the Lok Sabha, Home Minister Rajnath Singh had made an announcement to conduct an internal inquiry in this regard. Mr. Singh alleged that UPA government made a flip flop in the case.
Recently, former Under Secretary in Home Ministry, RVS Mani had told media that he was pressurized to file the second affidavit in the Supreme Court in which the reference to the LeT terror group naming Ishrat Jahan was dropped.
Earlier, former Home Secretary GK Pillai had also claimed that there was political interference in the case which led to the deletion of reference to LeT from the affidavit filed in 2009.
