The Union Home Ministry today issued a notice to Congress President Rahul Gandhi over his citizenship status on a complaint filed by Rajya Sabha MP and BJP leader Subramanian Swamy. The Ministry has asked Mr Gandhi to intimate about the factual position on the matter. It has given him 15 days time to respond to the notice.
In his representation, Mr Swamy has said that a company named Backops Limited was registered in the United Kingdom in 2003 and Mr Gandhi was one of its directors and secretaries.
He informed that in the company’s annual returns filed in 2005 and 2006, Mr Gandhi had declared his nationality as British and the dissolution application of the company in 2009 also referred to Gandhi’s nationality as British.
