Government will create buffer stock of 40 thousand tonnes of pulses as a long-term solution to shortage of pulses in the country. Minister of State for Agriculture, Sanjeev Balyan told reporters in New Delhi this evening that NAFED will procure 30 thousand tonne of Tur dal and 10 thousand Urad.

He said, the pulses will be procured directly from the farmers during harvest time and buffer stock will be sold to consumers when the prices of the commodity are high. Mr Balyan said, 200 crore rupees from price stablisation fund have been earmarked for the Buffer stock.

The Minister said, five thousand tonne of imported Tur dal has reached Chennai and Mumbai ports and of this half of the quantity is being given to Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Mr Balyan said, one thousand tonnes imported Tur daal has reached Delhi and is being sold 120 rupees per kilogram from Kendriya Bhandar outlets. He said, SAFAL and Mother Dairy stores will start selling of Tur dal from next week.
