Prime Minister Narendra Modi today made a strong pitch for UN reforms. He says, world’s largest democracies should be included in the UN Security Council.

He was addressing the G-4 summit hosted by him in New York on Saturday evening.

The G-4 Consisted heads of government of Germany, Brazil and Japan besides India.

He gave a call complete the process of reforms in the UN Security Council during the 70 session of the UN. Mr. Modi said that the reform of the UN Security council within a fixed time is an urgent task since the world is faced with new challenges like Climate Change and terrorism.

Later, in a joint statement the leaders of the 4 countries emphasised that the UN Security council reform should be completed in a fixed time frame. The leaders appreciated the adoption of the text based negotiations by the member states.

They reiterated that the G-4 countries are legitimate candidates for permanent membership of the expanded and reformed Security Council of the UN.

Briefing media after the meeting, MEA Spokes person Vikas Swarup said that the G-4 member countries have agreed to mobilise like minded countries for the UN Security council reform.

After attending United Nations General Assembly and G-4 Summit in New York, Prime Minister Narendra Modi left New York for San Jose today. He will arrive at San Jose, popularly known as Silicon Valley at about 01.00 AM Indian Standard Time.

This is the first time Indian Prime Minister is visiting California after 30 years. Prime Minister’s visit to the land of hundreds of start-ups and global technology companies is aimed at giving a major boost to the Digital India movement.

A dinner with over 200 top CEO’s of Silicon Valley including Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Google’s Sunder Picchhai, CEO of Cisco, Shantanu Narayen, and visits to the campuses of iconic IT firms like Facebook and Google will be the high points of Prime Minister’s two day visit to the San Jose.

Mr. Modi will also visit the factory floor of Tesla Motors to have a look at some of their path-breaking inventions, particularly in the renewable energy sector.

He will speak at a ‘India-US Start-up Konnect.’ At this event, a group of Indian start-ups will showcase their innovations and forge partnerships with the vibrant American start-up industry.

Prime Minister will also address a community reception at the SAP Centre in San Jose.

President of TiE, an association of Indian entrepreneurs Mr. Venkatesh Shukla said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to San Jose is significant as Silicon Valley is the epi-centre of innovation.
