Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI, has registered corruption case against Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. Mr Singh is facing allegations of corruption and acquiring disproportionate assets during his tenure as Union Steel Minister.

The Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate, ED, teams have carried out simultaneous raids at various residences and premises of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh in and outside the state today. Earlier searches were conducted at 11 places in Delhi and Himachal Pradesh in connection with disproportionate assets.

In Shimla, the CBI and ED officials reached the residence of Mr. Singh this morning. On June 18, CBI had begins a preliminary inquiry against Virbhadra Singh and his family members- wife Pratibha Singh, son Vikramditya Singh, daughter Aparajita Singh and their LIC agent Anand Chauhan to probe his accumulation of wealth of Rs 6.1 crore disproportionate to his known sources of income during 2009-2011.

It has been also alleged that they invested Rs 6.1 crore in life insurance policies through Mr Chauhan. This probe is offshoot of Public Interest Litigation filed by a Delhi based NGO Common Cause and the Delhi High Court was hearing this PIL accusing him for corruption and money laundering charges.

Meanwhile, the state BJP has demanded immediate resignation of the Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh from the post. Party’s Chief Whip and MLA from Shimla, Suresh Bhardwaj while talking to AIR correspondent said that the Chief Minister has now no moral right to become Chief Minister of the state. He should immediately step down, he demanded.
Congress terms CBI raids at Himachal CM as political vendetta by BJP

Congress has termed raids by CBI at Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh as political vendetta by the BJP. In a tweet, party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said, his party strongly deprecates politics of revenge and resolves to fight autocratic and vendetta driven politics of BJP.
