Independent journalist Neha Dixit today conferred with the Chameli Devi Jain Award for an Outstanding Woman Journalist for the year at a function attended by a galaxy of media figures, intellectuals and others distinguished figures from different walks of life.
The award ceremony was followed by the BG Verghese Memorial Lecture by Pratap Bhanu Mehta, President, Centre for Policy Research on the topic “Truth and Politics in Our Times”.
Later, there was a panel discussion featuring Yogendra Yadav, Ashok Malik, Arati Jerath and Neha Dixit herself.
Earlier, in the beginning of the programme, Ms Dixit narrated the consistent harassment and hardship she underwent whenever she tried to expose social injustice and crime against women and children unmask other bitter truths of the society.
“The jurors were impressed with the amount of work put into her stories through travelling, collecting documentary evidence and cross-checking facts to give authenticity and a humane touch to them,’’ the citation said.
