PARLIAMENT

AMN / NEW DELHI

Both the Houses of Parliament have been adjourned, the Rajya Sabha for the day and the Lok Sabha till Noon amidst uproar by AIADMK members.

As soon as the Lok Sabha met for the day, the members trooped into the well raising slogans in support of their demand for the setting up of a Management Board for distribution of Cauvery river waters.

Amid noisy scenes, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the House within minutes after it met.

The Rajya Sabha also witnessed a similar situation when the AIADMK members stalled the proceeding forcing Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu to adjourn for 15 minutes in the beginning.

Going by the circumstances prevailing in the House, Mr Naidu asked both the Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad and the Leader of House Arun Jaitley saying whether the House is so helpless to carry on with the business.

Mr Naidu sought cooperation from all parties in giving a farewell to over 40 retiring members of the House.

When the House re-assembled after the first adjournment, the agitating AIADMK members continued to stand raising the same and seeking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention.

Mr Naidu once again made a similar appeal to the agitating members. Expressing displeasure, he said that he has only two options either take action against the member or to adjourn the House. Later, he adjourned the House till Wednesday.
