The Bangladesh Railway has earned a record revenue of over 176 crore Taka by carrying freight through the India-Bangladesh interchange points in the year 2020-21. The Bangladesh Railway has said in a social media post that 1613 racks entered Bangladesh through the interchange points such as Rohanpur-Singhabad, Darshana-Gede, Benapole-Petrapole and Biraul-Radhikapur sections. This amount is 100 crore Taka more than the revenue earned in the year 2019-20.
The 1613 racks entering into Bangladesh from India contained over 36.93 lakh metric tonnes of freight into Bangladesh out of which 93 were rice transport racks and 316 were wheat transport racks. During this period Bangladesh Railways carried 2.15 lakh metric tonnes of rice and 7.67 lakh metric tonnes of wheat through the interchange points.
Apart from rice and wheat, the Bangladesh railways also carried items like fuel, liquid medical oxygen, stone and gypsum among others.
