NEW DELHI: Ahead of verdict on Babri Masjid, the government on Wednesday invoked father of nation Mahatama Gandhi quote to appeal people to maintain peace and tranquility in the aftermath of the judgment.
The much awaited verdict on Babri Masjid at Ayodhya would be pronounced by Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court at 3.30 today. The Supreme Court on Tuesday revoked the stay order on the Allahabad high court on Babri Masjid–Ramjanambhoomi title suits.
Home minister P Chidambaram recited mahatma’s favourite bhajan "Ishwar Allah tero nam- sabko sanmati de Bhagwan" in front of dozens of cameras to appeal to all sections of people to cooperate with the government and uphold the values of the country.
He said that India has moved on since 1992 and young people have recognised that the India story is much more than a dispute over a religious place.
“I think, India has moved, especially people who were born after 1992. They have a very different world view.”
He said that prime minister and all main political parties and several organisations have reposed their faith in the process of law and appealed to people for peace and harmony.
The Home Minister however seemed confident when he said that the measures put in place, peace and law and order will be maintained in the aftermath of the judgement by the Allahabad High Court on Babri Masjid- Ramjanambhoomi- title suit.
Speaking to media here on Wednesday P. Chidambaram said that the Centre has taken adequate measures and deployed enough security forces all over the country to assist the state governments to maintain peace.
He said that all the state governments have been advised to be firm and expressed the confidence that they will be able to maintain public order and peace.
He said that one lakh ninety thousand police forces from various formations are available with Uttar Pradesh and the state government is convinced that it is more than enough to maintain law and order.
He said that he is in regular contact with the UP government.
Chidambaram said that the BJP in its official position has affirmed that it will abide by the verdict of the Court and he expects the states ruled by the party to take that line to ensure that law and order is maintained.
