Sok Divas or Mourning Day has been observed today (August 16) in Assam to mourn the tragic death of innocent children and other persons killed in a bomb blast while attending the Independence Day celebration in Dhemaji in 2004.
ULFA triggered the blast where 18 persons mostly children were killed. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has paid tributes to the departed soul at state Secretariat in Guwahati today.
Later talking to newsmen, Gogoi has appealed Paresh Baruah led ULFA and Nantional Democratic Front of Bodoland-Songbijit faction to join mainstream. He said that it was the black day of the country when militants killed innocent school students in Independence Day celebration. Mourning Day has been organized across the state today including Dhemaji. Special prayer and public meeting have been organized.
