The newly-established Women’s Club of the Aligarh Muslim University conferred its honorary membership on Prof Neelima Gupta, Vice Chancellor, Chhatterpati Shahuji Maharaj University, Kanpur and an alumna of AMU, at a glittering function. Prof Gupta recently visited the club and met its Patron, Dr Hameeda Tariq, other office bearers and members of the club.
Sharing her success story with the members of the club, Prof Gupta said that being a woman, she had to overcome a number of problems and challenges to reach this position. She, however, admitted that AMU played a significant role in strengthening her to either change or challenge the stereotypical attitude towards women.
Prof Gupta discussed the idea of women empowerment and leadership and pointed out that educated women should work for the underprivileged as their commitment will only help these clubs and organizations fulfill their motto.
Prof Azra Moosvi, Secretary, Women’s Club presented a report on activities of the club and elaborated its mission and vision. She said that the club was working towards multidimensional development of society, especially in the fields of Education, Health, Skill Development and Environment.
Prof Naima Khatoon (Vice President of the club), Dr Faiza Abbasi (Joint Secretary), Dr Tamkin Rabbani and other members of Alumni Affairs Committee were present during the interactive session. Prof Samina Khan, Member, Executive Committee of the club, conducted the programme. Special thanks were proposed to Dr Shagufta Aleem, Provost, IG Hall, who made arrangements for the function on a short notice.
