Ajmal is the only figure who can make the king from either congress or the AGP in Assam. According  to all estimates and surveys  Congress would fall short of number to form  government on its own.

Congress high command has already started sending feelers to Ajmal through various emissaries.

To back the congress led government Ajmal’s first condition before the Congress high command would be to replace current chief minister Tarun Gagoi with some other senior congress leader of the state. His first choice for the CM is  Assam PCC president Bhubaneswar Kalita. The AIUDF also wants post of deputy chief minister and home portfolio in the next government.

More importantly the party wanted a CBI probe against the forest minister of the state Rokibul Hussain who according AIUDF sources is involved in the corruption cases.

People close to Ajmal has alleged that Rokibul had bribed Arshad Madani of Jamat ul Ulema-e-Hind to drive out Ajmal from the organization. Ajmal was the president of the Assam unit of the Jamat ul Ulema-e-Hind.

Ajmal felt badly humiliated by Rokilbul allegations that the former has taken money from BJP to divide Muslim votes. Rokibul was also present on the same dais with Madani.

Rokibul has earned the confidence of CM Tarun Gagoi and Gagoi’s support made him one of the most powerful congress leader in the sate. This time congress is likely to get less seat than the current Assembly. Currently congress has 53 out of 126 member Assam assembly seats. Congress would need 64 seat to form new government. Earlier it formed the government with e help of Bodo People Front (BPF).  This time they need more support from other parties.
