naddaAlarmed over the massive growth of population in some part of the country, the Government of India has decided to set up a committee to look into the causes of the enormous fertility rate in these areas and how to check the tendency.

Union minister of Health and family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda today said that 146 district in the country have shown unprecedented population growth. These districts are in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Assam, Jharkhand and Rajasthan.

“Government will set up a committee to probe causes of the surprising fertility rate in these district”, minister while showcasing the achievement of his ministry in 3 years of NDA government.

RATIONALE

 

  1. These 146 districts, with TFR 3 and above, contribute to 28% of India’s population, 25-30% of maternal deaths and 50% of infant deaths.

 

  1. TFR has a direct correlation with MMR and IMR. The greater the TFR, the more will be the MMR and IMR. Hence, reducing the RFR would lead to decrease in maternal mortality and morbidity and infant mortality and morbidity.
