Telengana Police have filed a case against a BJP MLA legislator who threatened to behead those opposed to the building of a Hindu temple on the site of a destroyed mosque.
The 16th Century mosque in Ayodhya town was razed in 1992 by a Hindu mob who want to build a temple to Lord Ram. The threat was made by T Raja Singh, a senior leader of BJP party in Telangana state.
A BJP spokeswoman criticised the remarks Mr Singh made on 5 April.
Late on Sunday, police in Hyderabad city registered a case against him for “deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs”, after a complaint by a Muslim political organisation.
Mr Singh has defended his statement on the flashpoint issue, saying it was aimed at those who were opposed to the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
“For the construction of the temple, we can sacrifice our lives and even kill others, this is my warning to those who want to create hindrance in the construction of the temple,” he said.
His speech has been strongly criticised by Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT). MBT leader Amjedullah Khan a two-time Hyderabad corporator, said. “Indian Muslims are not wearing bangles. We will not tolerate your rantings with silence. We warn you Raja Singh.”
Khan filed a complaint against Raja Singh on Sunday at Dabeerpura police station with a copy of Raja Singh’s speech on a CD. Khan said the BJP MLA had made the statements at Jummerat Bazar. He said: “Ram lalla, hum aayenge. Mandir wahin banayenge. (We are coming. The temple will be built there).”
Raja Singh told the crowd that those who try to stop construction of the temple are traitors and would be driven out of the country. The BJP MLA said the ‘mullah sarkar’ has gone in Uttar Pradesh. “Ab tumhari baap ki sarkar hai (now it’s our own government).”
According to Dabeerpura police Jummerat Bazar area comes under Shahinathgunj police station. But Based on the complaint, a case was lodged against Raja Singh under Section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings) of IPC.
Dabeerpura inspector D Venkanna Naik said.”We have registered the case after legal opinion. We will decide whether to transfer it to Shahinayathgunj police station.”
Amjedullah has also posted a video reaction to the speech and asked: “Why has Hyderabad police not acted against Raja Singh yet? Why is Telangana government not taking action?”
He said Muslims are not scared but were waiting for the judgment on Ayodhya by Supreme Court.
“We also know how to give you a fitting reply,” he said. “With the case of title deed still to be settled in the apex court, Raja Singh’s statements are contempt of court,” he said in the police complaint.
He said Raja Singh had taunted Muslims by saying: “Tum hamara pair pakad lo, kahin na kahin tumhara Babar ki masjid bana denge. (Fall at our feet, we will help build your Babar’s mosque somewhere).” He said despite all this hate speech, the police didn’t stop him.
MP and MIM president of Hyderabad Asaduddin Owasi said he would not react to Raja Singh’s speech, he said “I prefer to ignore Raja Singh’s remark. Let them speak more. Then Hindus who voted for BJP will realise they have been taken for a ride.”
