Noted Gujarati poet and ghazal writer Chinu Modi passed away in Ahmedabad last evening, he was 78 and hospitalised last week after severe heart attack. Born on 30th September 1939, Chinu Modi has made a great contribution to Gujarati literature with his poetry, plays, novels and stories.
Born in Vijapur town in North Gujarat, he completed LLB in 1961 and MA with Hindi subject from Gujarat University in 1968. During 1965-75 he was professor in Ahmedabad’s Swaminarayan Arts College. He worked as script writer in Indian Space Research Organisation during 1975- 1977.
Chinu Modi has written over 50 books of poetry, drama, novel, stories, critics, biography, collection, songs and translation. Chinu Modi had received Sahitya Academy award in 2014. His body will be donated to the medical college as per his last wish.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi offering his condolence, said that the passing away of Chinubhai Modi is a great loss to Gujarati literature. In tweet, the Prime Minister said his work and literary flair will always be remembered.
