ObamaUS President Barack Obama has announced a pledge by 50 nations to take in three lakh 60 thousand refugees from war-torn countries this year.

Opening a summit on refugees at the United Nations, Obama praised Germany and Canada among other countries that have opened up their doors to those fleeing conflicts zones like Syria.

He said, the world is facing a crisis of epic proportion as about 21 million refugees have been forced to flee their countries due to conflict or persecution.

President Obama said the international community cannot avert its eyes from the crisis. He said, the refugee crisis is a test of the international system where all nations ought to share in their collective responsibilities.
