Cuts short roadshow in Varanasi, rushed to Delhi

Congress President Sonia Gandhi today had to leave the party’s roadshow midway in Varanasi after she complained of uneasiness. She was flown back to New Delhi. Mrs Gandhi was leading the roadshow to launch the party’s campaign for 2017 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency.
Prime Minister has wished Mrs Gandhi speedy recovery. In a tweet Mr Modi said, he prays for her quick recovery and good health.

Congress leader Sonia Gandhi got ill this evening during her visit to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. She is currently getting treatment at VIP lounge at airport there. She is reported to suffering from high blood pressure, high fever and diarrhoea.
She is likely to be rushed to New Delhi by air ambulance or she may be shifted to BHU medical college in Varanasi.
Earlier she cut short her big roadshow in city and started back for Delhi after she fell ill. She developed high fever midway through her roadshow and was advised by doctors not to go ahead with the final leg which included an address to the public and a visit to the Kasi Viswanath temple.
Before she called off her road trip the Congress president stood in an SUV greeting party supporters who gathered on the streets as her cavalcade drove through.
Thousands of Congress supporters and workers took part in the roadshow from the Circuit House to Englishiya Line, a distance of about eight kilometres.
Gandhi, who was initially travelling in a car and later moved to a vehicle with open sunroof, waved at the crowd which cheered and raised slogans against the Modi government.
