DHAKA

zakir nayakBangladesh government today banned broadcast of Peace TV. The cabinet committee on law and order took the decision at a meeting held at Secretariat, chaired by Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu.

“Transmission of the peace TV has been shutdown,” Amu said at a briefing after the special meeting of the cabinet committee on law and order at the home ministry’s conference room.

The decision came against the backdrop of the allegations of inspiriting militancy by airing “provocative” speeches of controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik, who runs the TV channel.

India in 2012 banned the Peace TV after the authorities there found that the channel allegedly aired anti-Indian contents. The ban was reinforced yesterday (Saturday), threatening that the cable operators would face stern action for airing the banned Peace TV.

The TV broadcasts its contents in English, Urdu and Bengali from Dubai.
