India’s Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari left for North Africa today on a two-nation visit to Morocco and Tunisia. During the 5-day visit, Mr Ansari will hold deliberations with top leaders of both the countries, with an aim to give a filip to the bilateral relations and explore new avenues of co-operation.

The Vice President will reach Moroccan capital, Rabat Monday evening and will later meet King Mohammed 6th and Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane.

He will reach Tunis on Thursday and hold discussions with President Beji Caid Essebsi and Prime Minister Habib Essid.

Issues of terrorism, expansion of United Nations Security Council, investment, ways to strengthen outreach to Africa and regional matters are likely to figure during the talks.

A number of MoUs in various fields including education and IT, capacity building and cultural exchange are also expected to be signed.

The tour comes in the backdrop of the recent attacks on African nationals in India, and the India-Africa Forum summit held in October last year in Delhi in which heads of 54 nations across Africa participated to give a new thrust to their partnership with India.
