A Parliamentary Panel has raised fingers over country’s counter- terror security establishment for its failure to prevent the recent Pathnakot Airbase attack. It said there is something wrong with the establishment as despite the fencing, floodlighting and patrolling by the BSF, Pakistani terrorists managed to sneak into India from across the border.

A report of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs headed by Congress MP Pradip Bhattacharya was tabled in Parliament today. The Committee also questioned the role of State Police in the incident saying even after abduction of Punjab Police S P and his friends, it took longtime in understanding gravity of the incident. The Panel said it is unable to understand how terrorists managed to breach the high security airbase in spite of terror alert sounded well in advance.

During its visit the panel found that Pathankot airbase’s security cover was not robust and had a poorly guarded perimeter wall. It has recommended the government to pay attention to effectively sealing the border in view of series of attack from across the border in this area. Seven security personnel were killed in the terror attack on the airbase carried by Jaish-e- Mohammad on 2nd of January this year.
