The Centre has decided to send additional Central Police Forces to strengthen the security grid in the Kashmir Valley. The move came following the tense situation in Handwara. An official release said, the situation was reviewed at a high level meeting at Home Ministry in New Delhi on Saturday.
The meeting also assessed the requirements of Jammu and Kashmir Government to bring the situation in the area under control without any further loss of lives.
During the meeting, senior officials from Intelligence Bureau, Ministries of Defence and Home and Central Armed Police Forces were present.
The release said, Home Ministry is in regular touch with senior officials of the State Government and has been monitoring the situation.
It added, The Centre has also assured full cooperation and support to the State government to ensure that there is no further loss of lives.
The Centre is concerned over the loss of human lives in Jammu and Kashmir during the last four days.
The development package announced by the Prime Minister during his visit to Kashmir in November last year is being expeditiously implemented to generate employment for the local youth and bring overall prosperity in the State.
Meanwhile, normal life in Kashmir Valley remained tense for 5th day today. Curfew remained in place in parts of Srinagar city and north and south Kashmir areas to maintain law and order.
Shops, business establishments and private institutions remained closed for the fifth consecutive day.
The educational institutions and universities remained shut. Kashmir University and JK Board of School Education postponed their examinations on Saturday.
