The Jharkhand government has drawn emergency plans to meet the situation arising out of water crisis in the state. Leaves of all the concerned officials have been cancelled. The state will create a large number of all -weather six- feet deep ponds, measuring in total 588 acres across the state. The works on water supply through pipelines and connecting different water reservoirs are in full swing, and some of them are nearing completion.

Jharkhand Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation Chandra Prakash Chaudhri has suspended one department Executive Engineer of Adityapur, near Jamshedpur, for negligence in works and financial irregularities

Many areas of Jharkhand are facing water crisis as the mercury soars unusually high. In capital Ranchi, water is being supplied with tankers in many densely populated areas of like Harmu, Hindpidhi, Kishoreganj and Morahabadi. Yesterday technical problems hampered water supply in Harmu and Kanke areas. The major dams of Ranchi are also having very low water levels.

Ranchi’s biggest water reservoir, Hatia dam, has only about 10 feet of water, which is unprecedented, as last year around this time, it had 15 feet deep water. The 50 fishing units, or the ‘catch culture’ of Hatia dam have been closed due to water shortage. Our correspondent reports that each unit produces one ton of fish every year.
