The Opposition parties will bring privilege motion against HRD Minister Smriti Irani over her remarks in Parliament on the suicide of dalit scholar Rohith Vemula in Hyderbad Central University.
Congress along with CPI(M) and JD(U) accused Mrs Irani of misleading Parliament on the issue. Briefing media in New Delhi, party spokesperson Mukul Wasnik alleged that in her reply during discussion on the matter in Parliament, Ms Irani made false statement saying that no doctor reached Rohith’s body till the morning after his suicide.
Mr Wasnik said the Chief Medical Officer of the University has claimed that the medical team reached the spot within minutes of hearing about the incident. Mr Wasnik said Congress will move a privilege motion against Ms Irani.
CPI(M) leader Mohd Saleem said that he will bring privilege motion on Monday in the Lok Sabha. JD(U) leader K C Tyagi also said that he and nominated member KTS Tulsi will give privilege notice against Mrs Irani to Chairman Hamid Ansari on Monday in the Rajya Sabha.
