monsoonMore than 600 villages in 15 districts have been submerged in the current surge of water, affecting over 3 lakh people in Assam, over. Road connectivity has been snapped at several places, with around 11,000 hectares of crop land under water. Chief Executive Officer of the State Disaster Management Authority PK Tiwari said necessary steps are being taken to meet the situation. He said, Brahmaputra at Nematighat and Dhubri and Beki River at Barpeta are flowing above the danger mark.

Meanwhile, at least four persons were killed in a landslide that hit some villages along the National Highway in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district yesterday morning. The landslide was caused by incessant rain for the last few days.
