MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Salman Khan has officially announced the release date of his upcoming film Matrubhumi. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the film is scheduled to hit theaters on December 4.
The film is inspired by the 2020 military clash between Indian and Chinese troops in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley. Addressing the delays in the film’s release, Salman Khan explained that the team wanted to ensure the visual effects (VFX) and graphics were executed to the highest standards. He noted that VFX experts today scrutinize every single frame, and the makers did not want to leave room for technical flaws. According to the actor, the film is being crafted to deliver a visually stunning experience for the audience.
Salman Khan further shared that the shooting schedule was also impacted after one of the film’s lead actresses sustained an injury. The release window was previously considered for January, June, and August before settling on the December date.
Initially titled Battle of Galwan, the project was later renamed Matrubhumi. According to Indian media reports, Salman Khan plays the role of Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu of the 16 Bihar Regiment, who was martyred during the clash with Chinese forces.
Salman Khan had unveiled the film’s teaser last year on his 60th birthday.
