Home Ministry to deploy 480 companies of Paramilitary forces in West Bengal before assembly election

The Union Home Ministry will deploy 480 companies of Paramilitary forces in West Bengal before the state assembly election. This deployment will be in two phases. In the first phase, 240 companies shall be deployed from 1st March 2026, and the remaining 240 companies on 10th March 2026. The Union Home Ministry, in a letter written to the State Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and Director General of State Police, has informed about its decision.

The deployment of Paramilitary Forces is to maintain a law and order situation in the state with regard to the Assembly Election. In the first phase, 110 companies of CRPF, 55 companies of BSF, 21 companies of CISF, 27 companies of ITBP and 27 companies of SSB will be deployed. The deployment will also take place in all 8 districts of North Bengal, including the Darjeeling and Kalimpong Hill districts.
