The Enforcement Directorate (ED) approached the Calcutta High Court Friday, alleging that West Bengal Chief Minister  Mamata Banerjee obstructed raids and investigations at the office and residence of I-PAC head Pratik Jain. Due to disorder in the court, the hearing was stalled, and Justice Shubhra Ghosh deferred the matter until January 14.

Later, the ED urgently sought an immediate hearing by emailing the Chief Justice, but the Chief Justice declined to intervene, stating he would not interfere with judicial orders.

Earlier in the morning, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee filed FIRs against the ED at Bidhannagar Electronics Police Station and Kolkata’s Shakespeare Police Station regarding the raids at Jain’s home and office. The police subsequently registered another case against the ED at Shakespeare Police Station.

Meanwhile, opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari condemned Banerjee’s actions, calling them a criminal offence and a direct attack on the Constitution.

Protesting against the ED’s raids, Mamata Banerjee led a rally from Jadavpur to Hazra in Kolkata. The march caused severe traffic congestion during peak hours, inconveniencing the public. In Delhi, Trinamool Congress MPs staged a protest outside the Union Home Ministry against the ED’s raids. The demonstration briefly escalated tensions before police removed MPs, including Derek O’Brien, Mahua Moitra, Saket Gokhale, and Pratima Mondal from the site.
