The government has prepared a six point strategy to increase the income of farmers. Replying in Lok Sabha today, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that the efforts are yielding results with the farmers income increasing from two thousand 115 rupees per month in 2002-03 to ten thousand 218 rupees per month in 2018-19.
The Minister added that the six point strategy of the government includes increasing production, reducing production costs, ensuring fair minimum prices for produce, compensating losses caused by natural disasters, diversification of agriculture and promotion of natural and organic farming.
Mr. Chouhan said, apart from this, the farmers are also being given loans at low interest rates and subsidies for fertilizers and mechanised farming. He said, last year, the farmers were given a subsidy of two lakh 14 thousand crore rupees. The Minister informed that the Central government has made record purchases on Minimum Support Price.
Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has also informed that 24 crore 60 lakh soil health cards are disbursed, helping the farmers determine suitable crop on their fields.
Responding in Lok Sabha today, the Minister informed that the reduction in usage of chemical fertiliser by 10 percent according to the National Productivity Council study. He added that encouraging traditional, natural and organic farming will improve carbon content in the soil. He said that detailed soil profile inventory of 30 million out of 142 million hectares is already done under the Digital Agriculture Mission, .
