PATNA: The Bihar Government Tuesday abolished the Legislators Local Area Development Fund in the state. A decision to constitute a separate commission for the upliftment of poor people among forward class of the society was also taken. The decisions were taken at the cabinet meeting of Nitish Kumar Government. The state planning department has been instructed to suggest an alternative scheme in place of Legislators Local Area Development Fund. Under local area development scheme each MLA and MLC can spend up to Rupees one crore on development schemes per year. There are 243 MLAs and 75 MLCs in Bihar and a sum of 318 crores is released under the scheme.
