Sri Lanka’s Minister for Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekera, has said that the weekly fuel quota provided under the National Fuel Pass QR system would be increased in the upcoming fuel price revision starting next month. The Minister took to Twitter and said that the decision was made following a meeting held with the finance, commercial, and marketing divisions of the state-run Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.
During the meeting, the Minister also reviewed the CPC’s cargo plan, finances, and distribution plans. Currently, cars are allocated a weekly fuel quota of 30 litres, while three-wheelers receive 8 litres, motorcycles receive 7 litres, while buses get 60 litres.
The increase in fuel quota aims at alleviating the burden on motorists and meet the growing demand for fuel across the country. The QR based weekly fuel quota was implemented in July last year as the island grappled with acute shortage of foreign exchange resulting in short supply of petroleum products.
