Information and Broadcasting Minister of Bangladesh Dr. Hasan Mahmud has said that Dhaka is ready to import a certain number of Hindi films under some conditions.

The Minister said that now there is no problem in importing Hindi films as all associations of the country’s film industry have agreed on this, reports the official news agency BSS.

In this context, a letter was handed over to the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Dr. Hasan Mahmud by Sammilita Chalachitra Parishad on Sunday.

The Parishad is a combined platform of film industry stakeholders. The Parishad in its letter has proposed to import sub-continental foreign language films on an experimental basis for two years with 10 films in the first year and eight films in the second. It also recommends 20 weeks of screening time for such foreign films in a year.

The minister said that a larger number of people will visit cinema halls if Hindi films are shown and then people will also visit halls to watch Bangla movies as well.

The Minister said that earlier objections were raised but some organisations of the film industry stakeholders. He said now all stakeholders have agreed, the government will take steps according to the proposal and that the matter would be brought to the attention of the Prime Minister.
