Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel seems to be emerging as the new strongman of Congress. After shouldering the responsibility of guiding the party in Assam during the recent Assembly polls, he will now be in command of the grand old party in Uttar Pradesh.
The growth in stature of Baghel has been evident since the last few months after his commendable job of heading one of the most difficult states in India.
His closeness to the Congress high command and first family can be gauged from the fact that UP general secretary in charge Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has taken him along for a tour of the state ahead of the Assembly polls.
This despite the fact that several leaders are trying to undermine his stature by trying to portray that he may be replaced by the Congress leadership soon.
Sources stated that the repeated fueling of a tussle between Baghel and Chhattisgarh minister TS Singhdeo is nothing but an attempt by a section of the party to try and put a stop to his rising trajectory in the Congress.
However, it is understood that Baghel enjoys the confidence of the party high command and as of now there is no issue regarding his position as the chief minister.
