Congress’s social media team is using Donald Trump’s lofty expectations for his Monday welcome party — he keeps saying millions will turn up to greet him in Ahmedabad — to attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Specifically, the Congress is accusing PM Modi — as it has done relentlessly — of failing to keep a promise to generate jobs, at a time when unemployment is at a four-decade high and survey data consistently place it atop a list of key concerns, higher than corruption or farm distress.
Congress draws a connection between Donald Trump’s utterances and the jobs question?

In case you’re wondering, the 69 lakh figure is Trump’s prediction of 7 million (70 lakh) minus the approximate number of people actually expected to attend. The Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner, Vijay Nehra, said on February 16 that a turnout of “more than 1 lakh” was confirmed.
Earlier, upping the ante on the government over the visit, Congress said that the country should not become an extension of the US presidential election campaign but yield concrete results for India. Senior party leader Anand Sharma had also raised objections over what he called extravaganza being carried out at the Motera Stadium in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad in the name of the visit.
