A military commander In Mali, said that 3 hostage were killed and about 20 hostages have been released from a hotel in the capital that was seized by gunmen throwing grenades. The gunmen had seized about 170 hostages this morning at the Hotel.

It was not immediately clear why the group was freed or how many exactly remained held by the militants. Some guests also have been able to escape the hotel. Meanwhile, Mali’s security ministry said at least 3 hostages were killed.

The raid on the Hotel, which lies just west of the city centre near government ministries and diplomatic offices in the former French colony, comes a week after Islamic State militants killed 129 people in Paris.
