More than 121 villages of Kutch, Jamnagar and Banaskantha districts in Gujarat have been declared drought-hit. With this, the total number of drought hit and semi drought hit villages in the state have reached to 1,115.
The decision was taken in a review meeting of Cabinet sub-committee on water scarcity held in Gandhinagar last evening. The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, was attended senior cabinet ministers and top officials.
Sub-committee on water scarcity has also decided to release more Narmada water to ease the situation in the draught affected villages.
At present, 398 villages and 493 hamlets are being provided water through tankers, while the work of more than 20 thousand hand pumps have been completed. About 36 lakhs families have been provided emplacement under MNREGA, while more than 3 lakh kilograms fodder and grass have been supplied for cow shelters and cattle camps.
