At least 10 pilgrims were killed and eleven others injured when a building near the historical Gurudwara in Manikaran Sahib was hit by the big boulders Tuesday in Kullu District.
Deputy Commissioner Kullu Rakesh Kanwar told AIR correspondent that after getting the information the rescue teams were immediately sent to the spot about 50 kilometres from the Kullu and the rescuers are still trying to find out any one trapped in the debris.
About eleven injured people have been admitted in the Regional hospital in Kullu. Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has directed the district administration to provide best treatment to the injured. Governor Acharya Dev Vrat has also condole the death of pilgrims.
The age old historical Gurudwara Manikaran Sahib is situated along the bank of River Parvati. Several pilgrims were present there at that time of the incident and many are believed to be trapped under the debris. Eight bodies were evacuated by the rescuers later from the debris while the search is still going on. All of them were in the age of 21 to 38 years and belongs to Rogla village of Sangrur district in Punjab.
Meanwhile, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Jathedar Avtar Singh has offered his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who died in the landslide on Gurdwara Manikaran and has wished for early recovery of those injured.
In a press release, SGPC spokesman Diljit Singh Bedi has said that the six-storied building of the Gurudwara was damaged. He said Jathedar Avtar Singh has asked the Manager of Takhat Sri Keshgarh Sahib to keep in contact with the committee of Manikaran Sahib Gurdwara and dispatch whatever relief material is required.
