The Confederation of All India Trades (CAIT) has asked the Union government to come out with an ordinance to stop the ongoing sealing in Delhi which has affected thousands of traders. Since the Supreme Court -appointed monitoring committee is going about conducting sealing in an arbitrary manner while crushing the democratic rights of people, ordinance is need of the hour, said the CAIT’s secretary general Praveen khandelwal.
Talking to reporters here Friday, he said greatly perturbed by the ongoing sealing drive, traders have decided to hold a rally at Ghanta ghar in Chandi Chowk on February 15 while on February 14, the Valentine’s Day, the traders while raising theme My Valentine-My Shop will offer roses at the doors of offices of MCD, DDA and NDMC.
He said it is disgusting that under the very nose of the Central government, a committee armed with the apex court’s order is acting as an extra administrative authority taking everyone at its toes much against its mandate of looking at commercial activities only in residential areas.
He claimed it is interesting to note that so far the commissioner under section 419 of Delhi Municipal Corporation Act has not prohibited any area for commercial use and therefore all these rights are snatched and sealing is being done in a most anarchic way leading to gross violation of the Act.
