The water level in the Panipat district has reached 231.55 metres, which is above the danger mark of 230.85 metres. The administration has sounded an alert in villages near the Yamuna and officers are camping there. Standing crops on thousands of acres in the riverbed have submerged.
Machinery and manpower had been deployed to deal with the situation. Farmers were asked to keep away from their fields. Scores of animals living in the Yamuna riverbed reached adjoining villages to save themselves as the water level rose.
The administration sounded an alert in Rana Majra, Patthargarh, Tamsabad, Ramda, Rishpur, Adhmi, Rahimpur Kheri, Mirjapur, Goyala Khurd, Khojkipur, Garhi Basic, Jalalpur, Tamsabad, Sanoli Khurd and Khojkipur villages.
Krishan Kumar, husband of the Tamsabad sarpanch, said crops in the riverbed had submerged, but no major loss was reported.
Alert in Sonepat
The Sonepat district administration has sounded a red alert in areas along the Yamuna with the water level likely to reach its maximum level of more than 8 lakh cusecs. DC Anshaj Singh deputed teams under the supervision of Sonepat and Ganaur SDMs and Executive Engineer to monitor the situation.
Flood threat looms in Karnal villages
The threat of flood looms large on 22 villages of Indri, Kunjpura, Karnal and Gharaunda blocks situated near the Yamuna river after the water level crossed 5 lakh cusecs at 8 pm on Sunday.
About 200 acres of crops in the district’s Shergarh Tapu, Chandrao, Japti Chapra and Nabiabad villages were submerged. “Floods occur every year. This means we incur losses every year,” said Mainpal, a farmer of Shergarh Tapu village.
