The portals of the famous Himalayan shrine Gangotri and Yamunotri in Uttrakhand, have been opened for the pilgrims amidst chanting of Vedic hymns and rituals today. With this, the Chardham Yatra has commenced in the State.
The annual Chardham Yatra commences today with the opening of the sacred portals of Himalayan shrine Gangotri and Yamunotri after six month winter break. Today the festive doli of the idol of Goddess Yamuna with devotees reached Yamunotri from kharshali , while doli of Goddess Ganga was carried from Mukhwa for Gangotri with traditional drums and trumpets.
The portals of these shrines opened at 12.15 pm on reaching the festive dolis to the respective places amid chanting of vedic hymns. The occasion was marked by the presence of thousands of devotees and pilgrims. All arrangements for the facilities and safety of the pilgrims have been made at the stay points along the Yatra route by the district administration.
The Portals of remaining Kedarnath shrine will open on May 3rd while Badrinath on May 6th.
