Violence erupted when unruly people indulged in stone-throwing, vandalizing and setting on fire vehicles at-least five places at in Saharanpur district today.
This is for the third time in a month when the district went disturbed. According to reports, two dozen vehicles were torched and several people have suffered injuries in clash. The police have arrested nine miscreants in this regard. Senior civil and police officials are camping in the area. Police said, situation is under control.
The clashes started when members of Dalit groups – Bhim Sena, without any permission, gathered at Gandhi Park area of the city. They were raising their demands in connection with a violent incident which took place last week at Shabbirpur village under Badagaon police station of the district. When the administration tried to drive out these unruly people, they went berserk and started vandalizing, pelting stones and indulging in arsenal activities.
The miscreants stormed areas of Mallipur, Rampur manihran, Behat Road, Chilkana, Gangoh and Naripura. Later on police took over the situation.
Last week, there were clashes between dalits and upper caste people, which left one person dead and over 20 injured.
The violence followed a dispute over a procession to mark the birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap. Members of the Dalit community had objected to loud music being played during the event.
