Almost a month after Governor Ram Naik had sought clarifications on serious allegations against five persons cleared to be nominated as UP Legislative Council members, the Akhilesh Yadav government has again forwarded the same names to the Raj Bhavan for induction in the Upper House.

Of the nine names that the government had forwarded to Raj Bhawan in the category of nominated members last month, the Governor had cleared the name of four and sought information regarding others. Names of Rajpal Kashyap, Ranvijay Singh, Kamlesh Pathak, Abdul Sarfaraz Khan and Sanjay Seth were put on hold. Governor had received several complaints against these five candidates. He asked the government to verify the complaints against these candidates, which included allegations of evasion of Income Tax , and criminal cases.

Governor Naik has already asked the income tax department for details about recent raids on offices of Sanjay Seth who is a real estate businessman. Earlier, the Akhilesh Yadav government had only provided with brief description of the candidates, which had prompted the Governor to write to the Chief Minister on May 22, asking for each candidate’s “exhaustive details” and which particular field they represent. Later, instead of giving details of the candidates, which the Governor had sought, the government has submitted affidavits by the candidates.
