farmUnseasonal rain has caused damage to lives and standing crops in Uttar Pardesh, Andhra Pardesh and Telangana. In Uttar Pradesh, rain lashed most parts of the state for several hours for the second consecutive day yesterday. Hamirpur, Kanpur Dehat, Jaunpur, Amethi, Sultanpur, Lucknow and Farrukhabad among other districts witnessed mild to heavy rainfall which has almost completely wiped out all hopes for the farmers to take any grain of Rabi crops to their houses. The state government has declared the ongoing unseasonal rain as ‘Calamity’. Now the kin will get seven lakh rupees in event of death of the farmer. Meanwhile, the Met department has predicted, the rain and thunder showers may continue for another two days in most parts of the state.

Six people died and standing crops damaged during the unseasonal rains that lashed across  Andhra Pradesh, for the last two days. The Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister P. Pulla Rao said that the deaths occurred in Srikakulam, Anantapur, Kurnool and Kadapa districts due to lightning. Steps would be taken to assess the total damage for crops like paddy and maize and the government would be ready to procure the discoloured paddy, maize and other crops. The Government has announced four lakh rupees each to the kin of the five persons died in rain related incidents.

Met officials predict more rains in Telangana for next two days. Untimely rains have been lashing the two Telugu states for the past two days due to upper air trough and also formation of low pressure area over the region. Preliminary reports indicated that standing crops have been damaged in about 70 thousand acres across Telangana state. Crops like paddy, maize and horticulture and vegetable crops also affected in the state.
