Security forces today captured one suspected Pakistani terrorist alive and killed another in Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir,. An Ak-47 rifle was also recovered from the arrested militant. The security forces launched a search operation to see whether any more terrorists are hiding in the nearby forest.

This followed a terror attack that left two BSF constables dead on the crucial Jammu-Srinagar highway in Udhampur this morning. The terrorists fired at a BSF convoy on the highway at Simroli around 8 AM. Eleven other personnel were injured in the attack BSF jawans retaliated killing one terrorist while another managed to escape towards a village in the nearby hills where he took three villagers hostage.

Commissioner (DC) Udhampur, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said that the terrorist was caught alive after he was pinned down by two people he had taken hostage, giving the Indian security establishment a prize catch.
Danish Rana, IGP Jammu Zone, said that all the hostages have been set free while the arrested militant is being interrogated to ascertain details. He said that search operation has been called off.

Today’s attack came a week after the terror strike in Gurdaspur by three Pakistanis in which they and seven Indians were killed.

Meanwhile, Lt. Gen. Subrata Saha, general officer commanding of the Army’s 15 Corps, has expressed confidence that the army will be able to preempt attempts by terrorists to infiltrate into India. He told media on the sidelines of a function in Srinagar today that so far this year, 17 terrorists have been eliminated while trying to infiltrate. Saha said, Infiltration has been curbed due to efforts to the soldiers on the ground, improved surveillance grid and a good intelligence network.
