Tamil Nadu, delta farmers have urged the central government to set up Cauvery management Board immediately as per the orders of Supreme Court. Political leaders and farmers associations have welcomed the Supreme Court order directing the setting up of Cauvery Management Board within four weeks.
The long pending demand of Cauvery delta farmers will be fulfilled with the setting up of Cauvery management Board. The delta farmers of Thanjavur Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam are saying that they are now dependent only on samba crops instead of three crops a year.
The 12000 cusecs water released from Mettur Dam will reach Kallanai Grand Anicut on Friday. This water will then be released for delta irrigation.
The delta farmers say that there is water only for 30 days in Mettur Dam and hope that north east monsoon in October will save their samba crops.
